CELEBRATIONS
Are the celebrations important? Why?
Throughout the Bible we see many times when God calls His people to celebrate. Why?
Celebrations are intentional activities when we take time to reflect and be thankful for what is good and praiseworthy. Today, more than ever, we need to take time to celebrate. Why?
Most of us live in what we call the “not good enough” culture. Who we are is “not good enough”. What we do is “not good enough”. What we have is “not good enough”. Living in the “not good enough” culture is burdensome and even depressing. Celebrating is the best antidote against the negative impact of the “not good enough” culture.
How do we celebrate? Is Christmas a celebration? Regretfully, in most of our homes Christmas has lost its expectations for celebration and deteriorated to reflect the “not good enough” culture. In other words, the “not good enough” culture has robbed us from the celebration God desires for us.
What can you do?
In the book of Philippians Paul give us a very simple plan. “Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy — meditate on these things.” Philippians 4:8
Do you really want to celebrate? Be intentional. Take time and make a list of things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, and if there is any virtue and anything praiseworthy meditate on these things.
Where can you find the time to make such a list? Declutter the holiday. For tips on how to do this see “De-Cluttering the holiday”.
